Some of our past events:
On Wed. August 18th we had an Advocacy and Service dinner where Israelis, refugees and visitors got to know each other and signed up for volunteering. See some photographs from the dinner.
Maror מרור Art Exhibit: Over the course of Passover 2009 (March 24th-April 6th, 2009) 4Asylum exhibited artwork of and by asylum seekers. Partnering with Bet Hillel of Hebrew University, Eshkol B'Givaa and the Jerusalem Municipality, the exhibit was shown throughout Jerusalem and Israel, including at the Bezalel Art School, Bet Jerar Bachar and Ben Gurion University. At each opening, a number of refugees came to speak and answer questions. Photographs were taken at the border with Egypt, in Darfur and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The exhibit appeared in major television and news networks around the country, and helped make the wars in the DRC and South Sudan common knowledge. See some photographs from the exhibit.
The teachers and students celebrated a years worth of English learning at the end of the 2009 academic year. See more photographs.
Volunteers Will and Adrienne with Prof. Bauer
On March 20th, 2009 we visited Yad V'shem with asylum seekers, long-term volunteers and students, a visit sponsored by Bet Hillel, Eshkol B'Givaa and the Jerusalem Municipality. Prof. Yehuda Bauer kindly took the time to speak to us about the the Holocaust, the current ongoing genocide in Darfur, and our responsibility towards refugees today. His words were very powerful, and left an inspiring message to all of us to continue our work. For more photographs, click here.
In 2007 Members of Knesset Zehava Gal-On (Meretz) and Dov Hanin (Hadash) spoke at 4Asylum's panel talk, which included policymakers, representatives of Amnesty International and "Betzedek", and refugees giving their testimonials, their opinions, and their hopes for the future. See more photos here.
On December 18th, 2008 Simon Deng spoke to activists, students and refugees at 4Asylum's panel talk at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Mt. Scopus Campus. Click here for more photos and information.
"רואים את הקולות", "Seeing the Voices" : We screened completed testimonials on Feb 12th, 2008 at the Hebrew University's Bet Hillel, followed by a QandA session with one of the refugees interviewed. Dozens of effective volunteers for further interviewing and language tutoring were recruited at the event, which helped raise awareness about the victims of crimes against humanity from South Sudan.
