Born in Boston, Mass. in the United States, Mollie moved to Israel in middle school, later serving in the IDF as an optical inspector and Foreign Relations NCO. She founded Advocates for Asylum while studying for her BA in Political Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she is currently a graduate student and active member of the University Debating Society, representing the university abroad and in Israel at dozens of tournaments. She works as a debating coach for schools throughout Israel, including Bedouin and Muslim schools in the north of Israel. She  has extensive experience conducting in-depth interviews working as a research assistant at the Truman Institute for Peace and Democracy, the Szold Institute for Behavioral Sciences, and the Political Science Department of Hebrew University.  

Gabriel, Director of Relations with South Sudanese Community in Jerusalem

Gabriel was born in South Sudan during the Second Sudanese Civil War. He was captured by South Sudanese forces and later escapted to Egypt, where he faced civilian and police brutality, which lead him to cross the border in Israel in 2007. (see Gabriel's Testimonial.) Since 2007, he has worked with Advocates for Asylum to organize members of the South Sudanese community to help in advocating for a just Refugee Status Determination in Israel, and to publicize opportunities for language tutoring taught by 4Asylum's volunteer teachers. His house in French Hill was a central hub for our early activities.

Keith Goldstein, Director of Language Empowerment

Keith Goldstein,  is a PhD candidate at the Hebrew University who is conducting research on the sociology of education. He is currently a fellow at the NCJW Research Institute for Innovation in Education, the Israeli Government’s Program or Excellent Young Scientists, and he conducts additional research for the Authority of War on Drugs and Alcohol and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture. In the past Keith also conducted research and received fellowships from the Gilo Center (as an educational evaluator of a program in citizenship for Arab and Jewish high school students), the Shine Center (youth cultures research), The Israeli Social Sciences Data Center (statistics workshops), and numerous other foundations. Keith is originally from the USA, but he has lived in Europe, East Asia, and conducted a large number of trips around the world. Many of these trips were conducted in conjunction with his job as an interpreter and teacher on the Japanese Peace Boat. Keith speaks numerous languages (Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, English, and others). He has two MA degrees, the first in education was completed in Japan and the second in social sciences was completed in Israel. He completed his BA degree in philosophy in the USA and Belgium. He has been a language instructor (of English, Spanish, and Japanese) for over a decade for people of all ages from numerous countries. In Japan he worked for three years for the Japanese Department of Education’s JET Programme as an educational advisor and high school English teacher. In conjunction with his job and first MA thesis he completed research on experimental foreign language learning strategies. Keith immigrated to Israel in 2005, and in 2006 he began volunteering with refugees from Liberia in Tel Aviv through a program of the UNHCR, the Joint, and Mesila. Today he is teaching a group of refugees from Darfur, Sudan through a volunteer program of Activistsfor Asylum and other organizations.

קיט גולדשטיין הוא דוקטורנט באונ' העברית, העורך מחקר על הסוציולוגיה של חינוך. כיום הוא עמית אקדמי במכון לחקר הטיפוח בחינוך, התוכנית של ממשלת ישראל למדענים צעירים מצטיינים, ומבצע מחקרים נוספים עבור הרשות למלחמה בסמים ואלכוהול ועבור המוסד לזכרון תרבות יהודית. בעבר קיט היה עמית אקדמי וערך מחקרים עבור מרכז גילה (הערכה חינוכית של תוכנית באזרחות לתלמידי תיכון ערבים ויהודים), מרכז שיין (תרבו הנוער), מאגר הנתונים במדעי החברה (סדנאות בסטטיסטיקה), וקרנות רבות נוספות. במקור קיט מארה"ב, אבל הוא התגורר גם באירופה ובמזרח הרחוק, וערך טיולים רבים בכל העולם. חלק גדול ממסעותיו נעשו במסגרת עבודתו כמתרגם ומורה ב'ספינת השלום' היפנית. הוא דובר מספר שפות (יפנית, ספרדית, איטלקית, עברית, אנגלית ואחרות). הוא בעל שני תארים שניים בחינוך ביפן ובמדעי החברה בישראל ותואר ראשון בפילוסופיה בארה"ב ובלגיה. הוא מורה לשפות אנגלית, ספרדית ויפנית) כבר יותר מעשור עם אנשים ממדינות ומגילים מגוונים. ביפן הוא עבד שלוש שנים עם משרד החינוך היפני בתור יועץ חינוכי ומורה לאנגלית בתוכנית הג'ט מהממשלה היפנית. במסגרת עבודתו ותזה לתואר שני הוא ערך מחקר על שיטות ניסוייות ללימוד שפות. הוא עלה לארץ ב2005 וב2006 התחיל להתנדב עם פליטים מליבריה בת"א במסגרת תוכנית של האו"ם, הג'וינט ומסילה. היום הוא מלמד קבוצה של פליטים מדרפור, סודן
במסגרת תוכניות התנדבות של פעילים למען פליטים וארגונים אחרים.

Rebecca Akoun, Animator

Rebecca Akoun is a graduate of animation at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. She was born in, France, where she studied at ecole Estienne superieur des arts graphiques, a top art school in Paris. After immigrating to Israel in 2003 she worked on the Ein Hashofet Kibbutz, where she learned Hebrew before joining the Israel Defense Forces. While a student at Bezalel she studied in Switzerland for a semester abroad, where she created “The Last Station,” an animated short screened in Switzerland and Israel.  In 2009 she created an animated short with children at risk studying in a local boarding school. A year later, in 2010, she won first place in the painting category of the Ministry of Absorption’s annual New Immigrant Art Competition.
